OFF-TOPIC: The Colours in October

October was not golden this year as it is normally supposed to be - it was ugly, rainy, dark, cold - simply yuck. But around the 20th the sky lit up and Mother Nature presented us all her skills in form of an Indian summer....

GUEST POST: Inmod

Today’s guest post is from Katie, a blogger at Inmod, an online retailer of modern furniture, lighting and décor.

Hi everyone! Taking a note from Petra’s inspired art blog posts, I’ve decided to match up her beautiful artwork with select pieces of furniture that we offer over at Inmod. I don’t know about you, but when I’m thinking of a piece of art, a photograph or drawing for interior spaces, I think of the art drawing in from something within the room, typically a piece of furniture. So, let’s get started!

The first pair we have is the Hayworth Sofa matched with the Ho’okipa silk carving that is 46” x 16”. These two would be a great fit firstly because of the similar colors and secondly because of the texture. The silk carving has interesting texture that coincides with the smooth text of this modern sofa. This sofa is 72” wide, so the carving placed horizontally would look excellent if hung above.

Petra has a wonderful collection of photography that includes many bright blossoms, which I found a perfect match for the Fiore Chair. I chose three of the photos and tiled them above the chair, which would be perfect for a sitting area in a corner of a living room or bedroom. This is a great art/furniture combo for the lover of color.

Finally, I dove into the drawings section of Petra’s collection to find the perfect match for Inmod’s popular Ball Chair. As the Ball Chair is a fun, whimsical piece of furniture, I was in search of a drawing that was equally as fun and full of whimsy. I think I hit the nail on the head by pairing the Ball Chair with Petra’s Vanity drawing, how about you? The oversized drawing measures 58” x 32” – and its character is the perfect accompaniment to the Ball Chair.

Obsessed by the Colour Purple

To be honest I don't care a bit about things which might be trendy or not, I don't care about fashion envogue or not and I could not care less about colours whether they are in style or not but I can tell you exactly what I like and what I dislike. And Purple is a colour that I am obsessed with - so it seems at the moment. In a couple of months or even tomorrow this could be history.

Currently I write a whole series around the colour Purple on my other blog In Terms of Colour, referring to various subjects but all around the colour and it is a lot of fun. I have realized that especially this colour (as defined by the RGB percentages) appears in so many variations which seem to belong to completely different hues at the same time as no other colour is capable of. Also the natural purple colours seem to appear in more variations than any other colour. I could be wrong though as I have no scientific proof for this statement but on my research through the internet I found far more natural objects in purples than in other colours so far.

Back to interiors.
The purple shades I especially love in interiors are the dark ones, the deeply saturated ones, the dusty ones as in the following example which is rather a rosybrown-tan-thistle-palevioletred-lavenderblush composition than real purple but it belongs into the range.

Besides missing some art other than those small objects on the wall (as in the original photo below) I virtually placed one of my photography works on the wall which would add some more interest to this room:

Now here comes an example which I really find exciting. The deep purple of the wall makes a statement! The only flaw in my opinion is the stupid hifi on the wall - this ugly little thing really does not fit with this exotic Chinese bed. What a room could this be with something else than that black thing. I replaced it virtually with another piece of my photography work - how would you like it now?

The next room is marvellous as it is in this vignette. I love that huge mirror with the silver frame which adds a touch of luxury to this otherwise quite simple room.

The following "dining" room would earn the undertitle "bohemien" and I love it. It's not only the dark shades of purple that make my heart swing but that kind of uncomplicated and casual decoration that reveals a lot of personality.

The next room is ridiculously unrealistic - made for Hollywood film sets - but surely not for the "real world". I love to look at these amenities though which seem to be populated only by very beautiful and very sophisticated people. I wonder how it would feel to sleep in a bed such as this one? Like a princess? But then I would have to go back in time many many many years...

Bedroom under the Roof and a Winter Landscape

There is nothing spectacular in this bedroom and it does not even look similar yet it reminds me of my childhood just because it is directly beneath the roof with slanting walls.

My bedroom at my parents house was the highest beneath the roof, it had 2 slanting walls, 2 small windows with a breathtaking view over the valley towards the mountains and my father had made a built-in bed just beneath one of those slanting walls. The room was small but for a child it was heavenly and cozy. In the early morning I was awakened by the singing blackbirds which had their nests beneath the roof and I could hear their scratching on the wood when they climbed into their nest. Funny how seeing a totally different room can recall such memories...

As usual I virtually added some art to the wall which I would certainly do if this room were mine - this time I added a photo with a winter landscape which is very appropriate at this time of the year. I decided to introduce also my photography. I tend to forget that photos can add a lot of charme to a room not only paintings. I have quite a stock of wonderful photographs in the meanwhile and it would be a shame not to take this opportunity to share them with you.

A bit off Topic...

You may be wondering where my new posts are? Well - I am bit short of time currently. See what I am busy with:



So far about interior design - LOL. These are Peppi and Pina (from Peppina), the babies of Willy and Winnie, who again are the kids of Emma and Pete, a pigeon couple that lives on our balcony since last year. Since this year Willy and Winnie are living on our balcony as well. And once a year they are allowed to have babies – all the eggs both couples are laying are replaced by plaster eggs – otherwise….

This is an adventure I would recommend to anyone who loves animals and especially birds. It is unbelievable how intelligent and adaptive these birds are. Their personalities and behaviour is amazing and I consider myself as a very lucky person to have been given this gift.

Since last year I write a diary and documentary about our pigeon family with lots of photos, slideshows and little videos. If you would like to check this out – here it is and you will love it.

Pigeon Tales

Why am I keeping these little buggers inside? Because a very evil bastard pigeon came a couple of days ago and nearly scalped little Pina and wounded Peppi. I found both babies bleeding like crazy, with deep puncture wounds in their little heads. That foreign pigeon wanted to steal the nest and tried to kill our babies. This I could not let happen so I took them inside…

So many amazing things I have learned about feral pigeons in the meanwhile, how extremely intelligent they are and how adaptive. If you want to know more about this all with many funny stories check out my blog Pigeon Tales. You won't be disappointed but surely surprised...
