Romantic Bedroom

After so much history it is time to return.
A bedroom is the most personal and intimate room of a house and reflects the owner's personality more than any other room. As most images we see are from rooms which are "staged" for photography it is immensely difficult to really detect a certain personality. The reason is that these rooms are part of an ensemble which is normally to be sold and therefore should not be filled with personal objects in order not to bewilder a potential buyer. The room should just reflect an idea how it could look like without making a too strong statement.

This bedroom though could need a bit more "friendliness", a bit more serenity despite the romantic touch, the ruches of the pillows and the bedding. Currently it looks a bit too gloomy for my taste. This could be achieved by the pigeon paintings I would hang on the walls. But judge for yourself. Below is the original room:

And this is the version I would tend to if it were my room:

Not much is needed in fact to brighten up a room - don't you think so too?

Here are the acrylic paintings from the pigeon series in detail:

Simple Compositions to spark Ideas

When I present paintings I always try to show them in a context. This does not have to be a complete room but often just one piece of furniture, a vase on a table etc. is enough. This way the viewer gets a better understanding how these paintings could look like in a room. Here are only a few options....

Purple Elegance in the Bedroom should not be sinister

You know I love the colour purple and I absolutely love rooms where this colour is used in abundance. But when you decorate a room in a relatively dark colour such as this one you need something that adds an equipoise in form of something light. Bedrooms need not be sinister and dark! I really don't understand why a very dark room should help to find sleep easier than a light, friendly and serene room?

Everything in this room adds to a sinister feeling. The colours are a perfect match but everything is equally dark. So if this were my room I would lighten it up with some paintings which bring some airiness into these 4 walls such as these ones from the Pigeons series:

The paintings are painted in acrylic on cotton. The first is called Contemplation on a Feather, the second one The Rain Dancer. For both the same beautiful pigeon was the model.

Light Blue - the perfect Colour for a Bedroom

Maybe I am slowly boring you with these paintings - I hope that is not the case -  but I want to show you how sweet these could look in rooms with a basic light blue colour hue. Also this bedroom has been designed around the colour light blue which is a calming colour on one hand but also refreshing and clean. It reminds you of the sky, of clear calm water of a lake. It is cool but not cold and is certainly a colour that is very appropriate for a bedroom.

Lightness is also represented through the painting Contemplation on a Feather which I virtually added here above the bed. Btw - the suggestion of a canopy bed through the pelmet above on the wall is really charming and would add a nice frame to any painting you would choose to hang here. I also "mounted" the painting into a dark frame in order to match the colour of the bed.

In the original image there is nothing planned to be hung on the wall and this is a bit sad. A piece of art always adds some personality to a room.

The painting is acrylic on cotton and belongs to my pigeon series. I am also writing a documentary and diary about a feral pigeon family who lives on my balcony since nearly 3 years now. This diary contains many stories and photos about pigeons, who are extremely underestimated and misjudged. These birds are highly intelligent, make very funny companions and are absolutely amiable. If only more people would realize how special these birds are. Maybe you will change your mind too if you start reading my blog Pigeon Tales. You will learn a lot of things you probably did not know before.

Itsy bitsy Flower Power Hippy Memories or what...?

From time to time these memories come back and then I realize it has been a long long time ago as if in another life. People normally grow out of this but sometimes I feel that little tugging at my sleeve...do you remember?

This is what I felt when I saw this sweet little bedroom. Not that it really looks so much flower power loaden but it somehow reminds me. What does it remind YOU of?

I wanted to give this room a bit more art so I placed that painting virtually on the wall. Contemplation on a Feather it is called and it certainly reminds me of philosophical discussions through many nights, with many glasses of cheap red wine and many many cigarettes. It reminds me of so many subjects we discussed and which had so much importance that somehow got lost in the decades passing by. When did they actually get lost? I cannot remember...

A Bedroom for the Romantic Soul

This is truly a bedroom for the romantic soul par excellence and I need to show this to you. It speaks of emotions, of nights spent with reading an old fashioned romance novel while listening to soft music while you can hear the ocean waves washing the sand....
This room seems to be taken out of a film, playing in good Ole England and any minute you expect the pretty young girl opening the door and bringing a basket with delicious fruit and a candle for the night... Geez - enough sugar?

Yes I know it may be redundant to place another painting on these walls but in order to increase the contemplative moments I have the following suggestion - you have to look closely though and the major part of it is left to your imagination...

The painting I am talking about is Contemplation on a Feather from the Pigeons series and is shown below in a virtual gilded frame as I could imagine it in this room.

A fresh Breeze from the Sea...

Normally I am not a fan of baby blue i.e. light blue especially not when - thank heaven - only middle aged underwear turned baby blue in the laundry because I forgot to take out a t-shirt that I had coloured myself in dark blue. Hmmm - the result was - disgusting. But this happens.
This sweet little bedroom made me somehow melt away and reminded me of clear summer days, with a fresh breeze from the sea. I just loved it. But of course I could not leave it as it was - I would add one of my paintings of course and thought of this one Contemplation on a Feather from the pigeon series. I just couldn't help about it...

Check out the pigeon series here if you like with lots of detail pics.

Light as a Feather...

I apologize for not posting much these days but I was (and still am) very busy working on a new painting series. So you may understand that I need to set priorities. As much as I love blogging and looking for new opportunities to show you what wonderful interiors can be found out there - sometimes not everyhing you like to do is manageable any more and I wished I had another pair of hands and more than 24 hours a day.

The painting here is the latest that I finished and I thought I show you two beautiful environments where the very same painting looks completely different, depending on frame and surrounding colours: in the very light room it looks dreamlike, with a touch of romance, in the dark room the painting serves as a kind of optical brightener, giving the elegant room a more cheerful touch.

As I already said the painting is the startup of a new series about one of my favourite subjects: pigeons (finally). It is called Contemplation on a Feather. As you may know I am writing a documentary and diary about a feral pigeon family who lives on my balcony since nearly 2 years now. You will learn a lot of things you probably did not know before.

.

The painting looks very different depending on the frame it is mounted in. This is just an example I like very much because it looks so romantic...
